The reading and the article are both about the fossils that are found and sold by private collectors. The author of the reading mentions three negative effects of this process, the speaker, on the other hand, thinks that the reading is exaggerating. She refutes every single point mentioned in the reading.
First of all, the reading says that the public suffer because they will not have the ability to see these fossils since those private collectors tend to keep the fossil away of the public. The lecturer rebuts this claim by explaining that many of these discovered fossils go to public schools and libraries where it can be see by large numbers of students and ordinary people.
Second, the text states that the scientists will lose access to many valuable fossils because of the private collectors. In contrast, the professor points out that all these fossils must be identified and examined through scientists even in case of private collectors. Therefore, the scientists will gain more information about any new fossil discovered which rebuts the unrealistic supposition in the reading.
Third, the author of the reading contends that the commercial fossil collectors often destroy the evidences and as a result we lose very valuable information. The speaker goes challenges this notion. She elaborates on this saying that is better to reveal about more fossils, since without the fossil collectors we could not have found these fossils. In fact, they, somehow, playing a positive role in discovering more fossils.
