TPO 21- planting genetically modified trees
In the reading, the author claims that planting genetically modified trees has a number of benefits by pointing out three reasons for supporting the idea. However, finding all the ideas questionable and implausible, the lecturer totally repudiate the claim and presents some evidence to the contrary.
At first, the author argues that genetically modified trees are more resistant than the unmodified ones. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that they have few resistant than unmodified trees in the environmental challenges like climate changes. According to her, in this situation, some of the natural plants may destroy but some resistant trees remain sustainable, while, in the same hard condition, all the modified trees completely destroy and wipe out.
In addition, the reading passage holds the view that genetically modified trees have more benefit economically for whose grow them because they grow faster and can give greater fruits or other products. On the other hand, the lecturer disputes this point by clarifying the fact that genetically modified trees have hidden costs. the lecturer explains that farmers have to charges money every time that they want to plant and also collecting trees and growing new plants has not cost for a farmer in unmodified trees however it charges cost for planting modified ones.
Finally, the author asserts genetically modified trees can preserve wild trees as the last point for supporting planting genetically modified trees. The lecturer, though, dismisses it by pointing out that genetically modified trees grow more aggressively than unmodified ones and make more damage. As she stated, modified trees grow among the natural trees and compete out with them in resources like sunrise, water and soils, as the result they crowded out native trees.
