The reading and the lecture both discuss whether human can live on Venus planet or not. The reading states impossible to create a human life there because of high atmospheric pressure, the lack of water and oxygen and little sunlight. However, the lecture says that human can establish some stations on Venus in order to maintain a permanent human presence.
Atmospheric pressure is the first problem. According to the reading, atmospheric pressure on Venus is about 90 times more than at Earth, then it is almost impossible to survive in this pressure. In contrast, the professor refutes this statement by saying, human are able to create their home not on the surface of Venus, but on the high height. Therefore, atmospheric pressure is relating to the height that it makes possibly to establish human station.
In addition, water and oxygen resources is crucial for human. The reading says that there is not water reservoir on Venus and also the planet's atmosphere is only carbon dioxide and sulfuric acid. The speaker points out that we can produce water and oxygen by using these materials and based on the chemical processes. Thus, these substances are not only bad things but also are very valuable.
Finally, very little sunlight arrived to the planet. The passage says that only 40 percent of the sunlight reaches to the Venus and it is not enough to produce electricity there. The professor, on the other hand, states that clouds are not very thick and it is sufficient to produce electricity by using solar cells.
