In the reading passage, the author claims that there are three viable explanations to refute this hypothesis that the pattern of fine lines surrounding the backbones of Sinasauropteryx, which was a dinosaur that its fossil was unearthed in China, should not be demonstrated as feathers. However, find the ideas implausible and questionable, the professor casts doubt on what is presented in the text, and states the evidence regarding the fine lines is very strong; hence, the critics mentioned in the reading passage are entirely unacceptable.
At first, the author argues that this precise pattern may not function as feather since the decay of skin fibers in volcanic ash would produce such fine line after the animal death. Conversely, the professor contends that this idea is not feasible. Having not observed any decomposition skin in the fossils discovered in that site, scientists repudiate this idea. In fact, since the skins of dinosaurs was well-preserved in its shape beneath the ash, the archeologists are of the opinion that the feathers were remained based on its origin figure as well.
In addition, the reading passage holds the view that the resemblance of the relics() of frills with these fine lines has ratified that this pattern was the remains of frills not feathers. on the other hand, the lecturer dismisses this point by clarifying the fact that the components constituting the frill are chemically varied from the elements of feathers. Indeed, feathers have included special kind of protein which frills do not contain, and the examination has been scrutinized on the fine lines has endorsed that having contained the protein, the fine lines are undoubtedly debris of feathers.
Finally, the author asserts the idea that the fine lines placed on parts of body which would not represent the thermoregulation function of the feather, thereby it could not have been feathers. The professor, thought, repudiate this idea by subscribing the fact that there are some other usages for feather such as a specie of bird that utilize its feather to attract the mate. She adds that according to this issue that the investigation on the fine lines revealed there were colorful including orange and white; it had the same appliance for the Sinasuapteryx.
