The article states that there are 3 competing theories that determine the buildings in Chaco Canyon in New mexico were used and provides three reasons of support. Conversely, the professor states that unfortuantely none of these arugments explanation is convincing and he refutes each of the author’s reasons.
First, the reading avers that teh Chaco strutures were resdential, with each housing hundred of people. The professor, howver, refutes this point by saying that from the outside view of these structure could be for residential purpose, but from the inside looking it cast doubt the residential theory. he adds that if these structures were hosuing hundreds of people, we should have been discovered so many fireplaces that people used for cooking. This point were missing in the Chaco location, for example archaelogists found in one location a fireplaces remains that could be used for 10 families, but the rooms of this house could take hundred of people. As a result these structures could not have been residential.
Second, the article claims that the Chaco structures used for storage food supplies, such as grain maize. On the other hand, the professsor opposes this point by stating this idea is unsupported by evidence to jusify it. Even though the buildings plausible to store food, The archaelogists did not discover enough remains of maize traces and the maize containers. Ansd so, the professor concludes that without finding enough evidenceof remaining maize, the theory of these buidling were used to store maize is totally unconvincing.
Third, the reading posits that houses were used as cermonial centers, such as Pubelo Alto house. The professor disagrees with point by explaining that this theory is not well supported. Excavations of the mound revealed other materials that unexpextedly have been found that should not have been there if these houses were for special festival. For instance, archaelogists have been discovered bluiding materials like sand, soil and they also found construction tools. The professor adds that these remains could explain that these the location of Pubelo Alto was trash place. Moreover, the broken pots that discovered in this location could have been regular trash too that couuld have been left from construction workers. The professor concludes that the findingof Pubelo ALto location is not good evidence to assume that these structures were used for cermonies.
