The line graph depicts the amounts of commodities which were transported by 4 various modes of transport such as; road, water, rail as well as pipeline in the UK from 1974 to 2002.
Overall, the figures of virtually all modes of transportation increased significantly, except for rail that did not experience perciptable alterations by the end of the period.
It is clear that the vast amount of goods was transported by road at roughly 70 million tones in1974. However, the quantitiy of commodities carried by pipeline had the lowest figure with 4 million tones in 1974. Moreover, it is worth to note that the commodities carried by water and rail which had almost the same figure with just about 40 million tones.
By 2001, it was witnessed that the amount of goods up to 100 million tones that was transported by road. Likewise, the trend for water showed exponential rise by the end of the period to 60 million, whereas the data of rail remained steady in 1974 figure. What is more, the quantitity of commodities delivered by pipeline underwent remarkable alterations throughtout the period. That is to say that the figure for this mode of transportation rose almost four times more to 22 million in 2002 than it had in 1974.
