The topic is about the population decline of frog species. The reading passage introduces three methods to solve the problem. However, the lecturer rejects each of the methods as unpractical solutions.
The first method mentioned in the reading passage is to reduce the use of pesticides. The lecturer indicates that reducing the use of pesticide is not ecosystem practical or fair. Reduced use of pesticides will decrease the production of crops, leaving the farmer less competitive than others who do not follow the law of reducing the use. This method will lose more crops. This is the first obvious divergence where the lecturer disagrees with the reading passage.
Second, the reading passage suggests that the treatment or prevention of fungus will protect the frog population. The lecturer says this method is unlikely to succeed in a large scale because it requires individually treatment. Also, the treatment is unable to be passed on to the offspring, which means the treatment needs to be applied again and again on the future generation. This is the second explicit point where the lecturer challenges the reading.
The last method presented in the reading passage is to protect the key water habitats of the frog from excessive water use. The lecturer argues that global warming is actually the biggest threaten of the frog population, not the overuse of water habitats. Global warming cause many species to go extinct. Therefore, protecting the water habitats is unlikely to change the situation. This is the third point which the lecturer uses to clarify that the three methods in the reading passage is unpractical.
