Essay topics:

The diagram shows the life cycle of a large species of fish called the salmon.

The given diagram demonstrates the development process of the salmon.

Overall, there are obviously 3 major stages in salmon's development, starting with salmon eggs lying in the upper river and ending with adult salmon swimming in the open sea.

First, the cycle begins with salmon laying several eggs in the upper river, where the water flow is slow. The eggs are carefully hidden under the reeds, as well as covered with small stones to prevent them from becoming a food source to other larger fish and predators. Around 5 to 6 months later, those eggs hatch into small fries with the length of 3-8 cm. Then, they follow the river flow to arrive at the lower river, which has a faster flowing movement. Within the next 4 years of their lives, this river site would be their home until they grow bigger in size. By the time they are ready to leave for the open sea, the small fries will become molts with 12-15 cm in length.

Subsequently, the molts rely on the river flow to take them to the open sea, the place where they would feed and grow into adult salmon. Approximately, adult salmon can grow up to 70-76 cm in length within around 5 years. Then, the adults swim back to the upper river site where they were born to lay eggs as the cycle continues.
