The reading proposes three reasons to confirm that the vessel found in an archaeological site in Iraq is not an electrical battery. The lecturer, however, casts doubt on the claim made by the author of the article. First, the author believes that a battery should have some wires, but no metal wires were found near the vessel in that area. The lecturer refutes this point. She says that perhaps there were some wires in the site, but probably, they were dismissed by people, as they did not find them important to keep, or they have been used for other purposes later on. Thus, it is not a convincing reason to reject the idea that the found vessel is a battery. Second, the author of reading contends that a vessel with a copper cylinder inside, which was found in the other archaeological site, had been used for holding of sacred texts. Thus, the vessel found in resent site is more likely to be a container of the same kind of texts. The lecturer rebuts this claim. She suggests that although it is probable that the vessels with the same shape and size have been created to hold the sacred texts at first, but they could be used for other purposes in the following eras. So, it is not a good excuse to refute that the vessel was not a battery. Finally, the author states that there is no meaning to have a battery while there is not any mean to use it. It means that having a battery was useless in that era because people were not able to use electrical power. The lecturer, on the other hand, challenges this point. She says that there is no evidence to indicate people did not know how to use the electricity in that era. On the contrary, some healers could use it as an invisible or magical power. Moreover, it could be used as a muscle stimulator for humans. Hence, this reason cannot prove the author’s claim.
