There has been some debates among whether the let it burn are beneficial or not. The lecture says that the let it burn fire policy has many advantages. The reading argues that the policy harm the park.
The first point of dispute is that the yellow stone fire causes tremendous change to the park's trees and vegetation. The lecture says that the after the fire, the appearance of new smaller plant become more easily. According to the lecture some new plant need open unshaded area to grow, also some seeds need to exposed to extreme heat to spread. That is how the fire benefit the park. On the other hand, the reading contradict this point by saying that many vegetation and plants were harmed. All the trees were blackened and devastated.
Another controversial issue is that the wild life of the park was affected by the park fire. The lecture claims that the fire creates new opportunity and ideal life for new animals. For example, rabbits and a hars become inhabitant in the park and as well they have new predators living in the park also. However, the reading disagrees with this point stating that the disruption of animals habitat and the disruption of food chain make it impossible for wild animals to continue living in the park.
The final point of the debate is that the park become less attractive to tourists after the fire. The lecture says that the fire was not the only reasons for all the destruction happened in the park. At that time there was heavy rain and strong wind accompanied to the fire that cause the park to be less attractive to tourists. But since 1988 after the fire there was no evidence for such wind or rain and the visitor started to visit the park. Yet, the reading argues that due to the fire large number of tourists decided to stay away o the park.
