The lecture and the reading both are taking whether to suppress the natural forest fire or not. The reading says that the let it fire policy caused three serious damage to the forests. However, the lecture disagrees. It claims that the let it fire policy benefit the forests.
First, the reading states that there are a lot of damage to the natural vegetation. For example many plants were backland and devastated. The lecture contradicts this point by saying that the forest benefits from the fire, for example, some new plants find there way to grow, also some seeds need the extreme heat to germinate.
Second, the reading states that the wild life of the animals as well as the food chains are affected by the fire. For example, deer and elk seen fleeing the fire. Also some small animals were not able to escape from the fire. But, the lecture opposes this point. It claims that the fire recovered the population. For example, rabbits and hares begin to inhabit the forest, also there are new predators for them appear in the forest as well.
Third, the reading argues that the fire comprised the value of the park. For example, the forest lose their attraction. Tourists are no longer interested to visit the park. Yet, the lecture refutes this point by saying that the tourists now visiting the park every year. Also the forest damage not only because of the fire but also because of the low rain and the dry period accompanied with the fire. But since 1988 no such evidence of dry season or strong wind happened.
