Computers and modems have made it possible for office workers to do much of their work from home instead of working in offices every day. Working from home should be encouraged as it is good for workers and employers.
Do you agree or disagree ?
By and large there is no denying that modern advanced technologies have brought many advances in numerous fields of human endeavour. As an example, the information technology has given people the opportunity to work by distance. One could argue if this phenomenon is only for the benefit of as well employers as employees or might there be some disadvantages as well.
One can put forward that working by distance has several advantages. Firstly, a strong case in point is that people who work from home do not take part in the commuting process. Moreover, less cars on the roads means less traffic congestion, a reduction of the emission of greenhouse gasses and less traffic aggression. Secondly, the time that people gain by working from home can be spend on parental education and childcare. As a result, parents have the opportunity to bring their children to school, prepare more nutritious balanced meals, and advise them with their homework. A third advantage is that employees can work throughout the day in a more concentrated way without being constantly disturbed by colleagues. As a result, working from home could improve not only the quantity but also the quality of the work.
Despite of all these benefits, some people are of the opinion that working by distance might have some disadvantages as well. As people work from home, this might be at the cost of social interaction with their colleagues. Furthermore, the absence of separation between the work environment and home could entail a negative impact on private social life.
In conclusion, working by distance can have many benefits as long as employees are aware not to let the job interfere with their private and social life.
