Well the professor mentions that how her point of view is different than the critics of the movie. She does not agree with them. She feels that sometimes movie critics like Malcolm, do not understand the real message of the movies by its content, instead they see the disparity that how African community was treated before civil war and movies depicts that in a good way. Although, reading passage shows, many critics had the same view.
In the lecture, professor focuses on how this movie has helped African community in different ways. Many african actors were casted to play differents roles in the movie, who were otherwise wouldn't be a part of cinema in that era. She strongly beleives that the movie has provided the job opportunities to african people. And that emphasized their position in society.
Professor believes, that the movie has not partrayed anything about racism, instead it was on a theme of feminism. Also the Southern family shown in the movie might not be behaving to their servant out of racism, it was just a rash foolish act.
Malcom mentions about the hysterical acting of Prissy in passage, which was played by butterfly McQueen. Nevertheless, professor argue on this point and says that, the reason prissy acted in such a way, could be a mere instruction by director of the movie. Also professor doubts on Malcom view on Mammy, though, its true that she was not given first name in the movie, still, she was the smartest character of the movie and shows a fierce protest to protect her people. Overall, mammy's role was very strong in the movie. Thus, this movies ended up grabbing many awards.
