TPO-08 - Independent Writing Task Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Television advertising directed towards young children (aged two to five) should not be allowed.Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

As television becomes more and more popular, advertising through television is increasingly effective. Consequently companies have been investing a lot of efforts to design differrent advertisements targeting at specific customers, including adults and children. In my opinion advertisments aimed at young children at the age of two to five should not be allowed.

First, children at this age cannot clearly differentiate between reality and fantasy so advertisments can easily deceive them, which is morally unacceptable. Most advertisements targeting at young children are animated so they are excited to see but the stories in these advertisements can never happen in real life. An adult or even a child at the older age from six to ten fully understands this fact but younger children may consider everything they see as reality. For example, an advertisment for a kind of milk that supplements calcium to make kids grow taller may illustrate its idea by showing an image of a small child doubling its height in just the blink of an eye. When a baby at the age of two or three sees that, it perceives what it sees as the truth. Consequently the baby may make its parents buy the milk because it wants to grow taller fast. Very young children should be protected against that kind of deception.

Second, watching too much advertisements on television has a bad effect on young children’s health. Advertisements aimed at young children are often made very fascinating and colorful like cartoons to attract children’s attention. However, watching television in general affects children’s sight. We see more and more children at primary school wearing eyeglasses nowadays partly because they watch television too much. It would be better for them to spend their time playing with their peers and exploring the surrounding environment rather than watching television. Furthermore, many advertisements for sweets target children and thus stimulate children to eat more sweets. Eating candies can interfere with the normal growth of children’s teeth or even cause tooth decay.

In conclusion, advertising aimed at young children has many possible bad effects on children’s mental and physical health. That is why these advertisements should be strictly restricted.

---------------------
Better to have 5 paragraphs with 3 arguments. And try always support/against one side but compare two sides, like this:

para 1: introduction
para 2: reason 1. address both of the views presented for reason 1
para 3: reason 2. address both of the views presented for reason 2
para 4: reason 3. address both of the views presented for reason 3
para 5: conclusion.

So how to find out those reasons. There is a formula:

reasons == advantages or

reasons == disadvantages

for example, we can always apply 'save time', 'save/make money', 'find a job', 'make friends', 'get more information' as reasons to all essay/speaking topics.

or we can apply 'waste time', 'waste money', 'no job', 'make bad friends', 'get bad information' as reasons to all essay/speaking topics.
