All too often, companies hire outside consultants to suggest ways for company to operate more efficiently. If companies were to spend more time listening to their own employees, such consultants would be unnecessary.
Frequently companies hire consultants to improve the particular area of the business, to get strategic advice, or simply to agument the staff. This is done because not many options are available. It is too naive to think employees can provide such specific strategic advice,skills necessary for the companies to operate efficiently. In this global economy with technology changing so rapidly consultants provide much needed advice and advanced skills with out which companies won't be able to survive.
Companies won't hire expensive out side consultants if the necessary skills and experience is readily avilable inside the company. if the company want to venture in to new areas out side current business line it is dificult to get the necessary skills from the existing employees. Some times because of the urgency to develop new products to stay competetive in the market place companies have no option other than hiring consultants.
It is easy to think why companies need consulatnts in slowing economy, but unless companies develop new products when the economy is slow then only they can take advantage of the upcoming growth cycle.There are few companies irrespective of the economic environment developed new blockbuster products in slow economy to become dominant playes in the field .
Employees and labor groups always under the opinion that talking to employees and hiring more employees is better solution than hiring consultants. But it is very hard to take more new emloyees when the market outlook and economic climate is so unpredictable . In last 10 years there are two or three recessions and economy is growing at lackluster pace .
Because of these unpredictable and challenging economic situations and rapid technological changes it is unavoidable to hire consulatants. It is too naive to think talking to employees and understanding them better make these consultants unnecessary. In fact these temorary consultants improve the skills of employees bring in more experience in to the company and add significant value to the bottom line of the company.
