Issue Essay: "The safety of consumer goods can best be ensured not by way of government regulation but rather through voluntary efforts of the private businesses that produce those goods."
Many people think that the safety of consumer goods should be taken care of by the government because government regulation is the only best way to ensure the security of the consumers. On the contrary, there are some individuals who think that the safety of the consumer goods should be voluntarily ensured by the private businessess that produce the goods. I, personally think that government should involve in the matter of the consumer safety, rather than the private companies. Hence, I totally disagree with the given argument that safety of consumer goods can best be ensured by private companies and not by government.
Firstly, it is the government's responsibilty to take care of its citizens, whatever the case might be. The government has to take measures regarding the security of the citizens, whether it is regarding the safety of consumer goods or any other matter. If the government keeps an eye on all the private businesses as to what materials are utilized or what method is applied for the production of goods, the companies will definitely change their techniques, if they are induldging in any illegal acts. This step by the government will not only result to help consumers for their safety, but also will keep the reputation ot the company. The government has to check regularly all the companies and should ban any product which is harming the consumers or which has been produced by illegal means.
Secondly, the main motto of the private corporations is to earn money. Private companies only work for for profit, which can be gained legally and illigally as well. They do not bother about their production methods, their formulas, safety measures of manufacturing, security of the consumers who consume their product, etc. as far as their product is in high demand in the market. For instance, the hair color product L'oreal. It is is huge demand, despite of its health hazards. This hair color is responsible for brain hamoerage, baldness and many other side effects, as per the research results. Nevertheless, the demand of the product is high, thereby eliminating the need of ensuring safety by the private company. Therefore, I feel that government should be responsible for the consumers safety and ensure that such products will be banned in the market untill any measures has been taken.
In conclusion, I would like to urge the government to take measures regarding the safety of consumer goods and take strict action against those companies which do not bother about the consumer security. Just as a mother is always behind her child for the child's safety, in the same way, the government should always be behind the private organizations to ensure the safety of the consumer. While there are arguments to be made on both the sides of the situation, I have supported by point with the help of reasons and examples that I disagree with the given argument.
