In order for any work of art—for example, a film, a novel, a poem, or a song—to have merit, it must be understandable to most people.

Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.

Many art pieces such as a film, a novel, a poem, or a song is not understandable to most people especially if they have merit. Most of the people do not prefer this kind of complex art, if they do not understand. Even though, we can see that these art pieces' number of selling popularity is usually is not high. People may prefer other art pieces whose concern does not have a merit.

At first impression of the statement is that, discriminating people according to their favor of art pieces. There are two group of people who can understand this type of art, who can not. And also, not only eliminating people but also inside these arts such as novel, film, poem, or song, their aim makes the art pieces two different type. One of them aim is to get a merit, the other one was made only for money. Usually merit art pieces don't consider money, their target is prize. Hence, they don't care how their art pieces are understandable. As my observations, I agree with the statement that, whenever I watch art pieces with merit, I found them boring, usually very long, and not easy to get main idea.

Moreover, we are just their customer, I believe some art pieces only concern customers who they like, what they want to see, what they want to read, which artists they wan to see on the movie, etc. If their concern is money, then their art pieces will be understandable. However, the other group of people do not concern us, there should be some committee who criticize their work. I believe writers', producers', directors' or singers' endeavor is to gain a merit from these commentator.

In contrast, some people may think that art pieces should not be understandable most of the people. Moreover they prefer, the more convoluted art pieces mean the more merit. As a result of this aim, art pieces will get obscure by time. However, if they concern their work not only for merit but also people's understanding situation. As a result of this, they will create a society whose art taste is getting better by the time.

In conclusion, artists', writers', singers', directors' aim should be to gain public merit instead of commentators merit. This will create more quality of works in time. The more they concern our understand ability in their work, the more they will earn merit from society. There should be subtle difference between art pieces or regular pieces of a novel, a poem, a film or a song in future.
