Essay topics:

In most professions and academic fields, imagination is more important than knowledge.

Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.

Imagination, is a powerful skill that pushes the boundaries of limited thoughts of an individual and encourages him to think out of the box.Almost all of the major discoveries and scientific advancements today are based on strong imaginative powers and the will to change the world.Surely, knowledge is a significant factor towards advancement in any field in general, but it is the imaginative skills that bolsters the determination to achieve the goals. Therefore I fundamentally agree with the author's claim that in most of the professions and academics, imagination is more important than knowledge.

Firstly, imagination leads a person to think differently and uniquely and this is what primarily determines one's success in that particular field. For instance, a scientist like Galilio had no means to travel to the space during his era.But it was only through his imagination accompanied with some basic knowledge in his field that led him to expand his boundaries of thoughts and imagine about an infinite universe. Thus imagining about the entire universe led to his theories about the movement of various celestial bodies which was considered to be a major scientific breakthrough at that time.An artist uses his imagination to depict paintings that reflect social conditions existing in the society. This in turn, has a greater impact on the people's lives by influencing them and making them aware of the social conditions existing around them.In the current scenario,it is the scientists and biologists who have imagined a world free of pandemic which has led them to the creation of vaccines. The availability of vaccines have helped save millions of lives from this brutal pandemic .Thus it can also be concluded that imagination often leads to fruitful results that may help in development of a society.

Furthermore, imagination can also help to strengthen the basic knowledge about any subject and inspire to achieve more excellence in any field. For example, when education is imparted to students without any scope of improving their imagination, then it often becomes monotonous and boring to study different subjects.Consider, a history class where students are forced to read facts from textbooks. This would limit their minds to those facts only and would deteriorate their thinking capabilities. But if the same facts were woven in the form of stories, allowing the students to create an imagery in their minds about any incident from the past, then that would have a greater impact on thier minds and it would incite even deeper interest among them to learn more about the subject.Students can understand and absorb certain mathematical concepts relating to 3D figures and shapes, better if they are encouraged to create to visual imagery in their minds about the objects and then solve the problems related to it.

However, in contrast to the above statement, in certain situations,it is an improved skillset and extreme knowledge of a subject, that is going to help the individual to tackle any problem. For example, consider a situation of emergency such as a building that is set on fire. In this case, it would be prudent for the firefighters to use their knowledge to extinguish the fire. Deliberating over the matter and using imagination to deal with the situation in this case, would only exacerbate the situation. Thus in the cases of emergencies and exigency it is often the knowldege and not imagination that comes into use.

To sum up,although knowledge is essential in determining one's progress in any field, but it is only the imagination that can define the uniqueness of that individual and lead to his progress and advancement towards success and excellence.
