Average Marriage Age in England and Wales
In general, it can be seen from the graph that wedding ages both of men and women in the UK and Wales was continued to rise towards 2000, although in first decade, the males’ age was decline slightly.
The average at marriage for females was around 23 from 1961 to 1971, then increase steadily to approximately 24 in the following decade. Furthermore, the average age was sharp rise into 25 in 1991, and peaked at about 27 in the next decade.
On the other hand, the average age of males who got married was approximately 26 at 1961, then fell steadily in the following decade to become the youngest age. At the remained decades, the average age started to increase until reached the top at about 31 years old.
The trend is also illustrates that the distance between women and men age was almost the same, it just about 2 years in four decades; except in 1981 the distance was around 3 years.
Generally, from 1961 until 2000, the people who became marry were in later range of ages. In addition, in England and Wales, the grooms were always older than the brides.
