The diagrams below show the life cycle of the silkworm and the stages in the production of silk cloth.
Given are two diagrams which tell us about what a silkworm's life is like and how the silk cloth is produced.
According to the first diagram, the life of a silkworm starts from the eggs produced by the adults moths on the mulberry leaves. After a period of 10 days, the eggs become silkworms larvae who eat the leaves for further growth. About 4 to 6 weeks later, the larvae package themselves by providing silk threads around their bodies, and they will stay in this self-made cocoon for about 3 to 8 days, waiting for the final transition until, 16 days later, the final form of silkworm-moths-break off the cocoons finally. When the moths grow up and produce eggs on the mulberry leaves as their parents did, a new cycle of life begins again.
The procedure of the silk cloth's production is demonstrated clearly in the second picture as 5 stages. In the first stage, the worker select the cocoons produced by the silkworm, and then boil them in the water during the next stage. The third step is to unwind the cocoons, and each cocoon can be finally unwounded to a single thread whose length can vary from 300 meters to 900 meters. After that, these threads are twisted together as one strand and dyed in the fourth stage followed by weaving stage, where the silk cloth is finally produced and dyed again.
In general, the two pictures introduce us the lifecycle of a silkworm and the production of silk cloth.
