Increasing the price of petrol is the best way to solve growing traffic and pollution problems. To what extent do you agree or disagree? What other measures do you think might be effective?

Over the last period, due to population explosion, cities became overcrowded. As a result, a huge amount of traffic congestion and ecological problems appeared. Furthermore, people claim that the best solution to prevent metropolises from traffic tails is to increase the price of petrol. Before giving my opinion about this measure, I think it is necessary to look at the statement from both sides. Moreover, other possible and effective measures will be discussed in this essay.

Generally, there is no doubt that population is gradually increasing. And, of course, this leads to some sorts o problems, just as pollution and traffic problems. One of the ways to stop all of these is to increase the cost of petroleum. On the one hand, it might be an effective solution, because not everyone could afford refueling a car with an expensive petrol. This means that much more people would use public transport. Consequently, there would be less cars on the roads and less carbon dioxide produced. On the other hand, imported goods will cost more expensive because fuel cost and other outlays will be included to the price of goods. Thus, it will affect on buying power. likewise, reduction in sales will cause a range of problems in the country. Moreover, it will inflict upheaval on the world economy. In this case, I partially agree with the statement, but in my point of view, not every country should bid up the price on this type of fuel.

It is needless to say that any problem has its own solution, and one way to decline the traffic congestion is to build accessory road forks or to widen the streets. Another way out of this problem is to explore and develop safe alternatives to petrol and this would enable people not to pollute air with carbon emissions.

To sum up, government should encourage city dwellers to use public transport or to walk more frequently because this not only protects the environment, but also keeps people healthy.
