It is better for boys and girls to study separately rather than study in mixed sex classes. They are less distracted and this leads to better results.

Do you agree or disagree with this statement?

In my opinion, there are advantages and disadvantages both in mixed sex and one sex classes.

About separation, without any doubt I agree that boys and girsl, especially in their adolescence, can loose concentration on lessons if their mates are of different sex. According to this general idea, one sex classes keep the students focused on what they are learning from their teacher without losing attention. Speaking of correlation between focusing and learning, it is widely supported by scientists and academics that the higher is the first, the higher is the second.

On te other hand, we should consider the importance of aging in a detailed way. This approach lead, in my opinion, to a discussion involving how the sexual interest can vary from childhood, through adolescence, until the adulthood.

Firstly, at Elementary school I think it is positive for children to have mixed classes, because sexual attraction is not yet present. Moreover, the coexistence of both sex students leads to an higher level of intellectual vivacity.

Concerning Secondary school, some things change. It's common opinion that girls develop inner and physical changes before boys. But at this level of school, both the sexes show an hormonal "explosion": the body changes, the mind too. Separated classes allow, at least during lesson hours, the possibility for adolescents to not care about their body and the way they show themselves to the other sex. So they could, at least in theory, have the chance of focusing more on the lesson, having consequently the chance to get better school results.

At last, in high school I think it would be a mistake to separate sexes, because this decision could affect one of the real goal of education. That is to teach not only how and what one should learn, but also to meet people that one could then frequent out of school lessons, like friends or partners.

In the end, what I can say generally speaking is that dividing sexes can be an useful method to keep boys and girls focused on the lessons they attend. nonetheless, one should consider which period of childhood, adolescence or adulthood better fits with separation of sexes. Otherwise, the result wouldn't be to keep the students focused, but at opposite would be to invite them to distraction. With all the consequences this would mean in terms of scholastic/academic results.
