Some people think that travel helps gaining knowledge but others think that TV and internet play an important role in gaining knowledge. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Every year, people travel around the world to gain knowledge and experience. While some people believe that these can be acquired via internet and TV, I believe that there are a significant difference between getting information firsthand and virtually. This essay explores both arguments alongside appropriate examples.
Taking a trip to places allow people to obtain knowledge and personalise it through observing, sensing and receiving impression. These cannot be easily achieved by solely reading information and looking at pictures on media and internet. For example, historical destinations around the world get visitors everyday who learn about what happened and how people felt about some events taken in the past. Even though the same information can be acquired online, it is hard for people receive the same sense as physically visiting. Therefore, travel is the best way to gain knowledge.
On the other hand, there are other means of gaining knowledge such as using TV or internet. With advanced technology, people can easily encounter information about other countries’ culture and history without physically visiting the place. For instance, typing Kokoda on internet brings up thousands of photos and websites that contain relevant information. This means that people do not have to spare their time and money to get information about Kokoda. In other words, media and internet play a vital role in gaining knowledge.
In conclusion, there are logical reasons to justify the importance of TV and internet in acquiring knowledge, but in my opinion, people have to travel in order to gain more detailed information and broad knowledge.
