This report describes two charts: a bar chart and a line graph. The bar chart shows the number of Japanese tourist travelling abroad and the line graph shows Australia’s share of Japan’s tourist market, both from year 1985 to 1995.
From the bar chart, there was a gradually rising number of Japanese tourists travelling abroad, with some fluctuations between year 1990 and 1994, and reaching a peak in 1995. Taking a closer analysis, from year 1986 to 1990, the numbers of tourists were 5.5 million, 6.8 million, 8.1 million, 9.8 million and 10.9 million respectively, with at least 1% increase each year. In 1991, the number of tourists dropped by less than 1%, which got back on track the following years and eventually reached the peak (15 million) in 1995.
Similarly, on the line graph, a rising trend was observed with some fluctuations. From 1985 to 1989, there was an increasing rate of Japanese tourists in Australia, overall of 3% rise in the five years. However, in 1990, the rate dropped by almost 1%, which picked up again the following years until it reached the second peak of 6.2% in 1994. In 1995, there was a small decrease of 0.2%.
Comparing both charts, there was direct correlations observed. However, in 1990, an interesting trend was observed. During that year, Japanese tourist travelling abroad was on a rise, but there was a drop percentage of Japanese tourists visiting Australia.
