It is out of topic. It is not about happiness. read samples:
1 To acknowledge their hard work (if it’s not their parents’ money :) ). People feel that they deserve those things because they have worked really hard for it and own that luxury. Sometimes, it might be because they want to show people how hard they have worked to achieve those!
2 It might be to just get attention. It is often the reason with socially hesitant people who don’t do very well socially. So, when they own something good which others don’t have, it helps them attract attention, even though for a while and helps them blend into a social circle.
3 It might be for their near and dear ones. Sometimes people don’t have material desires of their own but they don’t want to deprive their close ones of what they want.
4 Sometimes, it might be to make life more interesting when you are bored out of what you already have.
5 Sometimes it might be to fill the gaps in life, that actual humans should have filled.
6 Buying happiness with money. When life’s not pleasing enough in itself.
