The two bar charts describe the number of USA marriages and divorces between 1970 and 2000, and the proportions of American adults in term of marital status in the years of 1970 and 2000.
In the first chart, the general picture is that the number of divorces was always surpassed by the number of marriages. To specify, the highest rates of marriages were seen in 1970 and 1980 with 2,5 million in 1970 and 1980, before a decline to 2,3 million in 1990. The figure continued to go down to 2 million in 2000. On the contrary, after a significant climb from 1 million in 1970 to the highest point of 1,4 million in 1980, the rates of divorces decrease to 1,1 million in 1990, followed by a slight fall to 1 million in 2000.
In the second chart, the percentage of married Americans outnumbered the rest with the number is 70 percent in 1970 and 60 percent in 2000. On the other hand, although the rates of people who never married was smaller than married people, it was still higher than the proportions of widowed and divorced adults.
In conclusion, the marital status background in the United State had seen a fluctuate trend over the period from 1970 to 2000.
