The bar charts illustrate the quantity of British people buying two kinds of books according to gender and age groups. Overall, more women buy books than men despite they choose slightly fewer non-fiction books. Moreover, the 45 year old and over people buy books more than any other ages.
About 60% of females choose fiction, which is nearly double than the number of males buying this type of book. Compare with non-fiction, the percentages of men and women are almost equal, which are approximately 50%.
For fiction books, the proportions of buyers increase gradually according to age groups. Just higher than 40% of population aged 16-24 buy this type but this figure for people at the age of 45 and older reaches 60%.
Non-fiction books witness a different trend with fiction ones. The proportions for the 25-34 year olds and 35-44 year olds are 30% and 31% respectively. Whereas, more than 45% of the UK people buying non-fiction is aged 16-24 years old and 60% is the number of people at the age of 45 and higher.
