The line chart compares four groups of complaints made to the Environmental Health Authorities in the city of Newtown from 1980 to 1996. The complaints are about noise produced by road works, traffic noise, factories, and household. In general, there were upward trends experienced by these figures, except for the figure of road works.
There is was a striking similarity between the figure of household and traffic noise in their recorded noise complaints, with the number reaching 1200 and 600 in 2004, respectively. At the first five years, these figures remained stable at 500 for the former and 300 for the latter. Regardless of a decrease between 1986 and 1988, after 1988 a significant increase was registered for both figures, when showing a dramatic increase to peak at 1200 for the former and 600 for the latter in 2004.
