The charts illustrate the proportion of people born in and outside Australia, along with the percentage of newborn babies in three different areas between 1995 and 2010.
Overall, it is clear that most parents decided to give birth in urban areas with an increase in the figure for cities. However, a significant decline was recorded in the percentage of children born in the countryside. Besides, most births witnessed outside Australia's border were in cities whereas less developed regions tend to be more popular places for giving birth in Australia when compared to other countries.
In 1995, around half of Australian babies were born in urban areas. Meanwhile, only a fifth of them was born in towns, which was about 10% lower than that of rural regions. However, 15 years later, the figures for towns and rural areas experienced downfalls to become equal. Moreover, an increase of over 12% was seen in the proportion of Australians born in cities in 2010.
Similar to Australia, places outside Australia witnessed a dominace in the percentage births recorded in cities. In 1995, 60% of newborn children was seen in developed areas, which was 20% higher than that of rural ones. Finally, towns and rural areas outside Australia witnessed noticeable falls in the proportion of births to be lower than 10% in 2010 while that of cities increased.
