Essay topics:

The chart below shows the changes in car ownership in Great Britain between 1961 and 2001.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisions where relevant.

The (given) graph compares the percentage of households that owned no car, 1 car, and 2 or more cars in Great Britain from 1961 to 2001.
Overall, car ownership in Britain increased over the period shown. In particular, the percentage of households owned one and two or more cars rose, while the figure for households without a car fell significantly.
In 1961, almost two-thirds of all British families did not have regular use of a car, around one third had only one car and no families owned two or more cars. The next 20 years, however, saw a significant increase in car ownership. In 1981, 15% of British households owned two or more cars, while the percentage of households with one car reached a peak of 50%. During the same period, the percentage of households with no car decreased sharply to approximately 35%.
In 2001, the percentage of households with two or more cars reached a peak of nearly 30%. Families with only one car were still majority, but their percentage had dropped slightly to about 44% and the percentage of families without a car kept decreasing to less than 30% at the same time.
