The given chart illustrates the rate of crimes included burglary, car theft and robbery of Newport city between 2003 and 2012.
Overall, it could be seen that there was a downward trend in the number of burglary cases during a 9 year period. In the same time, the number of car stolen incidents took place of burglary and become the highest rate of crime while the rate of robbery remain unchanged through 9 years.
Burglary crime rate began at around 3500 cases in 2003 and reached its peak at approximately 3750 cases in 2004. After that, this figure dwindled remarkably from 3750 cases to roughly 1100 cases which is the lowest point in 2008. In the next 4 years, burglary rate increased gradually from around 1100 incidents to about 1700 incidents in 2012.
On the other hand, robbery rate stood at about 600 cases in 2003 and this data fluctuated between 500 cases and 750 cases during a period of 9 year with no major changes appeared. In contrast, car theft rate witnessed a noticeable change which is the fall from around 2600 cases in 2005 to roughly 2000 in 2006. Finally, car theft rate rose slightly until it reached 2500 cases which is the highest rate compared with other sectors in 2012.
