The chart below shows the different levels of post-school qualifications in Australia and the proportion of men and women who held them in 1999.
The bar chart compares what kinds of post-school qualifications people in Australia could acquire and how many males and females held them in 1999. Overall, it is clear from the chart that there was a disparity in different genders obtaining five various post-school qualifications in Australia and the largest gap was in skilled vocational diploma.
Starting with skilled vocational diploma, postgraduate diploma and master’s degree, there were more men than women. The largest difference can be seen in the lower diploma where there were 90% males but only 10% females. In the higher diploma, the number of men was more than twice larger than that of women, 70% versus 30%. In the master’s degree, the gap was the smallest (60% against 40%).
Turning now to undergraduate diploma and bachelor’s degree, women outnumbered men, but the gap was less noticeable. 65% women received undergraduate diploma while 35% men did so. Compared with 45% males, 55% females obtained bachelor’s degree.
