Overall, there was a slight downward trend in three out of the five cities in the period from 1990 to 1995, however the average housing value increased moderately in the final years.
In the initial 5 years, the estate price in New York well down by 5 % comparing to the average price in 1989, while the housing cost in Tokyo and London dropped markedly by around 7% in both cities. On the other hand, prices in Frankfurt grew by about 2 percent and by a little less in Madrid.
Turning to the final seven years the largest property price hike witnessed in London to nearly 12% above the 1989 average, whereas New York and Madrid experienced less dramatic increase in prices and figures were 5% and 4% respectively. By contrast, houses in Tokyo remained still cheaper than in 1989, however were 2 percent higher than the 1990-1995 level. The cost of an average home in Frankfurt stayed approximately on the same level that was in the first period.
