The bar diagram displays the trend in number of students in further education in three lapses, 1970/71, 1980/81 and 1990/91, in Britain of men and women. The graph illustrates the significant changes took place over a period of 20 years. However, all the time, among both the genders, people preferred part-time studies comparing to full-time studies.
Overall, the number of men pursuing higher education remained roughly the same, though, there was some fluctuations, whereas, the number of women changed remarkably. Over time, men started opting full-time education and therefore the reduction in the part-time male students was approximately compensated by the rise in figure of full-time male students.
A steady growth in the number of female students can be observed both in part-time and full-time students indicating that more women have come into higher education. The number of women in part-time education is increased very sharply, reaching almost 11 lakhs from 7 lakhs during the frame period.
In conclusion, the number of full-time students is rising for both categories while in the case of part-time students, the figure droped by 1 lakh for men and grew by 400 for women.
