The diagram provides information about the number (in thousands) of UK’S student (male and females) at the university attending two different types of class (full-time and part-time) in three periods. Overall, there was an increasing trend of women participating in the part-time education system, while men experienced fluctuation. In addition, women accounted as the most participant in part-time classes compares to that of men.
In 1970/71, the figure of male part-time participants observed as the highest number in the period. It accounted for about 1,000 students in the initial year. Then, it fluctuated moderately in the following years (1980/81 and 1990/91), approximately 880 and 900 students respectively. Also, the share of full-time students increased steadily from 100 in 1970/71 to more than 250 in the final year.
The female participants in the part-time class stood just below 800 students and, increased to approximately 850 students in the following year. Finally, In 1990/91, the part-time student reached the highest number at around 1100 students. Furthermore, the number of women student in the full-time class stood at about 50 students and finished the period with four-time higher.
