The chart below shows the number of trips made by children in one country in 1990 and 2010 to travel to and from school using different modes of transport.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The bar graph depicts information on the different modes of transportation to and from school by children ages 5 to 12. The study covers a period of 1990 and 2010.

Overall, most of the school-aged children preferred walking to school in 1990 while cars were the least. However, in 2010, most of them chose automobiles as their way of transport while the least was cycling.

In detail, in 1990, over 12 Million of the children went to and from school on foot which was followed by travelling in a bus with about 7 Million. Half the figure of those who preferred walking was recorded for cycling and a combination of walking and commuting using a bus. The least taken mode of transportation was accounted for cars with over 4 Million of travels.

Conversely, ten years after, automobiles became the most useful way of travelling to and from educational institutions with over 11 Million of travels while more than half its figure was noted for those who chose to walk. Riding a bus or a combination of it with walking had about 5 Million and 4 Million, respectively. Bicycles, which were more preferred over cars in 1990, is now the least among all other mode of transportation with 2 Million of travels.
