The given bar graph compares the proportion of households in two different kinds of residence over a period of 93 years in two different UK states.
Overall, while the ratio of households residing in the accommodation they own saw a considerable increase overtime, the ratio of those renting an accommodation had plummeted sharply. In 1971, the same proportion of households lived in both the kinds of accommodations.
While, in 1918, nearly 80 percent of households lived in rented accommodation, the proportion had plunged to under 40 percent by 2011, a drop of almost twofold. Similarly, when in 2001, households in owned accommodation peaked at approximately 40 percent, those renting an accommodation reached a bottom at just over 30 percent in 2001.
In 1971, 50 percent of households were living in each of the two residence. When the proportion of households in rented accommodation crested at nearly 80 percent in 1918, the households that owned accommodation in the same year constituted just over a fifth.
