Chart A below shows the rate of oil consumption (in million barrels) in a small country from 1950 to 2010. Chart B shows the number of people employed in the oil industry in that country, and also the rate unemployment throughout the country over the same time
The charts give data about oil use, the employee and the unemployment rate in the oil industry between 1950 and 2010 in a small country. Obviously, the number of oil consumption increased broadly reflected in line with the number of people employed and the reducing of the unemployment rate.
Regarding oil consumption, this fluctuated around 20 million barrels per year until 1970, when it peaked up dramatically to reach 50 million in 2010. Looking at the data on oil industry jobs, we see that the growth in consumption was match by a roughly similar treble trend in employment. Numbers fluctuated around 1000 people until 1970, before rising consistently and reaching 3100 in 2010.
However, turning to national unemployment, this figure decreased progressively. Dropping from 4 % in 1950 to 3.9 % in 1970, and finally tailing off at 1.6% in 2010.
