The line graph compares the numbers of committing crimes happened in the UK and Wales, in terms of three distinct types, namely car theft, house burgling and street robbery, from 1970 to 2005.
It is clear that stealing car was the most significant way out of three choices, all the time during the 35-year period, and the figure for car theft was the highest in 1995. While the numbers of street robbery had been the lowest.
In 1970, there were 400,000 people stole cars, which were doubled than the number of house burgling, at 200,000. The figures for car theft rise steadily from 1970 to 1990, by 600,000, and began to fall dramatically before peaking at 1.6 million cases in the year 1995. Compared with the fluctuate trend seen in car theft, the numbers of robbery happened in streets remained at 20,000 until 1990, while people committed this crime increase nearly ten folds, to 200,000 by 2000, and remained stable.
By 1980, a rising pattern can also be seen in the numbers of house burgling, from 200,000 to 600,000. The highest numbers of people burgling houses stood at 700,000 for 5 years, since 1990. There were only 500,000 cases of house burgling found in both areas by 2005.
