Given are two graphs, while the line chart compares number of people visited the UK and the number of British people went abroad during 1979 and 1999, the bar chart compares 5 different countries in terms of popularity to people in Britain in 1999.
It is clear from the line chart that the total number of British individuals went abroad far higher than those who visited the UK during the research period. Additionally, France was the most popular abroad destination among British citizens.
In 1989, approximately 12 million British people visited another country, while the number of tourists went to the UK was slightly lower, at 10 million individuals. However, the gap between two figures widened as years went on. By 1989, the number of UK residents went abroad had risen to around 30 million people, whereas the figure for foreign visitors had reached 20 million people. In 1999, there were 52 million British citizens went to another country, compared to only 28 million people visited the UK.
It is interesting to note that France had the highest number of UK visitors, with more than 10 million people, in comparison with 9 million British people visited Spain. By contrast, the figures for the USA and Greece were significantly lower, at only 4 million and 3 million people respectively. Meanwhile, only 2 million people visited Turkey were from the UK.
