According to the line graph, it is obvious that UK citizens had a tendency to invest more money in buying books online. To be specific, in 1997, the UK's expenditure on online books was only around 10 million. The figure gradually increased over the examined period, reaching a peak at 24 million after 5 years. Meanwhile, in the period from 1997 to 1998, the graph also witnessed a dramatic growth in the amount of money allocated to books via the internet, rising by 5 million from 11 million to 16 million
In addition, there was a significant difference in the budget for online books among 4 UK countries, including Northern Ireland, England, Wales and Scotland. While the budget's England people for books purchased on the Internet accounted for four-fifth of the total expenditure by UK country, the pattern was reversed for Northern Ireland, where the figure was only 1%. The 2 other countries, Wales and Scotland, were relatively low in buying online books, with 10% and 8% respectively.
