The charts below show the average percentages in typical meals of three types of nutrients, all of which may be unhealthy if eaten too much. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The pie charts illustrate the average percentages of sodium, saturated fats and added sugars in typical meals consumed in the USA.
It is clear that the American ate much sodium and saturated fats in the dinner, while in snacks, they consumed a lot of added sugar.
In typical meals such as breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks the amount of nutrients like sodium and saturated fats had the similar trend. In the lunch and dinner, people in US consumed 29% and 43% respectively in total sodium. A same figure can be seen with fats at 26% and 37%. The two left meals accounted for around 30%.
There is a significant change in the distribution of added sugar in four meals. Most of the nutrients are consumed in snacks, to 42%, while the percentage of sugar in breakfast, lunch and dinner were 16%, 19% and 23% respectively. We can also see that it is a bad habit when the proportion of all unhealthy nutrients are consumed in dinner and snacks with nearly 50% for each.
In conclusion, the average percentage of nutrients in typical meals in US is uneven.
