The charts below show the changes in ownership of electrical appliances and amount of time spent doing housework in households in one country between 1920 and 2019.
The line graphs illustrate the differences in household possession of electronic devices and the number of hours spent on household chores in a nation over a 99-year period
Overall, it is apparent that there was the same upward trend witnessed in the ownership of all electrical appliances, however, washing machines showed a slightly different pattern. Meanwhile, the number of time people used to finish their housework declined continuously over time
Regarding the first chart, refrigerators were used by no one in the first year, however, they were reported with a dramatic surge to 100% in 1980 and stayed stable for the rest of the examined period. The same pattern was seen in the consumption of vacuum cleaners but with a lower degree, this electrical appliances' usage increased significantly by 70% from 1920 to 2000 then remained at the same point as washing machine onwards. Finally, although washing machine was the most popular electronic device in 1920, possessed by 40% of households, this figure gradually grew to just over 70% with a slight dip, ending up as the least common product
Looking at the remaining chart, thanks to the assistance of technology, the number of time people dedicated to housework weekly plummeted from 50 hours to 20 in 1960 before a steady decrease to 10 hours per week in the final year
