The charts below show the changes in ownership of electrical appliances and the amount of time spent doing housework and households in one country between 1920 and 2019.
The two given line charts illustrate the proportion of households with electrical
devices and the amount of time in each household spent doing housework weekly in
one nation from 1920 to 2019.
Overall, ownership of washing machine, refrigerator and vacuum cleaner increased
rapidly, with that of refrigerators showing the greatest growth. At the same time, the
number of hours at housework displayed a downward trend.
To commence with, washing machines were the most common appliance with 40% of
household owned it in 1920. Then, this number rose up to 70% in 1960 before hit a
small drop at 65% in the next year. Additionally, the percentage of household with
vacuum cleaner showed a steady upward trend throughout the period from 30% to
100% in 2019. Specially, almost no household owned refrigerator in the year 1920.
However, ownership increased sharply and hit a peak at 100% in the last period.
By contrast, the amount of doing housework first fell significantly from 50 to 20 hours
per week between 1920 and 1960. After that, it went down to just over 10 hours for
housework in 2019.
