The diagrams demonstrate both the proportion of household appliances using electricity which include washing machines, refrigerators, vacuum cleaners, and the number of hours each family spends on household chores in a country from 1920 to 2019.
Overall, it can be seen that the percentage of electrical household appliances witnessed an increase while the opposite was true for the amount of time used to do the housework.
In 1920, the number of washing machines was higher than those of fridges and vacuum cleaners, at 40%. However, after 40 years, the figure for fridge sharply increased to 90% while it was a steady rise in those numbers of washing machine and vacuum, both at 60%. The percentages of refrigerator and vacuum still quickly rose and remained stable at the same point, 100% whilst that number of washing machine moderately fell to 65% in 1980 before growing to 75% at the end of the period.
Looking at the second chart, the amount of time spent on doing household chores remarkably dropped during the period, which hit the highest point at 50% in 1920 and was lowest at 10% in 2019.
