Overall, emailings was the highest percentage of home users using the Internet. While the proportion of those who used the internet for payings bills online and emailings experienced an upward trend among ages group, this figure for social media witnessed a downward trend.
The percentage of Australian users who used the internet for emailings was nearly 80%. In contrast, only around 50% of those who paid bills and accessed social media via the internet in 2010 and 2011.
In terms of emailings, the figure for all age groups was over 60%. Besides, social media was the most popular internet use among the 18-25 age group, accounting for 90%, compared with 80% and 70% of the age groups 26-40 and 40-60. The figures declined to over 20% of the above 65 age group. Although only 60% of 18-25 Australian users paying bills via the internet, the percentage was higher among the age groups. Almost 80% of home users of above 65 age group using the internet for this purpose.
