The three given charts present what secondary school students in Australia do after they graduate over a twenty-year period starting in 1980.
Overall, there are three options for Australian graduates which consist of unemployment, employment and further education. Additionally, graduates gradually tended to choose to become employees rather than go to further education.
At the first glance at the charts, in 1980, it is obvious that haft of the total number of Australian students took further education after graduating from secondary school. In 1990, the figure decreased to 38% and in 2000, it was 37%. In other words, further education in Australia seemed to be less necessary to a part of secondary graduates.
By contrast, in 1980, 40 per cent of the total graduates engaged in employment. In 1990, the rate rose to 50% and continued increasing to 55% in 2000. Accordingly, Australian graduates were prone to working and earning money rather than getting a higher qualification. Besides, the unemployed proportion in 1980 was 10%, this rate slightly increased to 12% in 1990 and declined to 8% in 2000. These statistics partly reflected that unemployment was not a warning problem for Australian graduates over the period of 20 years.
