The bar charts illustrate data on the differences in the proportion of children from 5 to 14 years old involving several activities, separated by genders, in Australia, in 2003.
A closer look at the charts highlights the fact that girls tended to prefer activities related to culture over the sport, with a notable exception of musical learning. Additionally, the opposite trend was true for sport.
More specifically, there was a higher percentage of female children participating in dancing among other activities, with a rate of a quarter compared to only under 3% of that of their counterparts. Meanwhile, drama and singing were the least popular activities, and both experienced a similar rate of only 4% and 5% for boys and girls respectively.
Boys, however, showed more interest in playing musical rather than girls, with a rate of 15% which was 5% higher than that of their counterparts. Additionally, boys also had a higher tendency of taking up a sport than girls did, with 70% of them taking part in this activity in comparison with over half of girls join in.
