In 1979, beef’s intake was the highest, at about 220 grams per person per week. This figure followed by the consumption of lamb and chicken, at approximately 150 grams and 145 grams respectively. Meanwhile, each person ate only 60 grams fish per week.
During the following years, the country saw a significant growth to around 250 grams in the consumption of chicken. By contrast, the demand of beef and lamb halved to 100 grams and 75 grams per week respectively . By contrast, there was a slight fell in the consumption of fish, with the figure decreasing by about 10 grams in 2004.
