Overall it can be seen that the process by which glass is recycled is a multistep, cyclical process, which consists of three main stages: collection, processing and distribution.
In the first stage, customers place used bottles in collection bins, and the bottles are collected by large trucks.
Turning to the next stage, the bottles are taken by the trucks to a cleaning plant, where they are cleaned with high-pressurised water. They are then separated according to colour (green, brownor clear), and taken to a glass factory, in which the bottles are crushed into pieces. The pieces are melted in a furnace and the resulting liquid, together with new liquid glass, is poured into a bottle mould to produce the new bottles.
In the third and final stage, the new resulting bottles are filled and packed, and then sent to supermarkets, where the customers buy them and the process begins again and again.
